  • Pick a style, get the right tempo

Building a song with New Song, then Custom? Pick a structure and the tempo now follows it, so a ballad starts slow and a rock song starts with drive. Change the tempo whenever you like and it stays yours. Two new structures are made for fast, high-energy songs: Anime Opening, with long choruses and room for a hook right at the start, and EDM Pop, with a drop after every chorus. They come with two new strumming patterns, 3-3-2 Hits and Offbeat Stabs, which you'll also find in any section's Rhythm tab.

  • A drummer for your songs (PRO)

With PRO, the Custom screen has a new Drums option right under Rhythm, so your song can have a beat from the very first play. Choose Default for a beat that fits each part of the song, lighter in the verse and bigger in the chorus, or Custom to pick your own and preview each one. You can change any of them later in a section's Drums tab. Every beat in the app also sounds more like a real drummer now, with a punchier snare, crisper hi-hats, natural accents and a short fill at the end of longer sections.

  • Exports that sound just like your song

Export and Export as MIDI, in the song menu, now give you exactly what you hear in the app. You get every melody layer at its own volume, your takes at the right level, and your own backing track balanced with your voice. MIDI files open in your music software already set to your song's key and instrument. Playback is more consistent too: takes play at full level from the first listen, and Mute fully silences a layer. With PRO, a section now holds up to five melody layers, from the Melody tab or the melody editor.

  • Bring the backing track you already have

Upload base, under New Song, now takes the formats phones and music apps save in, including .m4a, .wav from any browser, and lossless FLAC. A song built on your own track also shows its full length at the top.

  • Steadier saving, smoother on phones

Your work is safer on a patchy connection. Takes and edits wait and save as soon as they can, even if your phone drops the signal mid-save. On a phone, a song's menu on the songs page closes with a swipe down, and the buttons on each song are easier to tap.
